The expiration of the US Hart-Scott-Rodino waiting period cleared a major regulatory hurdle for International Paper's all-equity acquisition of DS Smith. The deal, valued at about $7.22bn, is still subject to European Commission clearance and a court sanction, and is expected to close in Q4 2024.

Houston-based analytics provider Datagration won a contract with D6, a packaging manufacturer, to use its EcoVisor ESG and Sustainability Performance Management platform. The announcement was made on June 25, 2024.

Sharjah Agricultural and Livestock Production (EKTFA) awarded Tetra Pak a contract to install a Tetra Top packaging line at the Mleiha Dairy Factory in Sharjah, UAE. The agreement was signed during a visit to Tetra Pak's facility in Lund, Sweden, reported on June 25, 2024.

TOPPAN Holdings and Toyo Seikan signed a letter of intent to form a joint venture in Sweden to manufacture packaging for automotive lithium-ion batteries, with Toyo Seikan holding 51% and TOPPAN 49%. Operations are expected to start in 2026 or later, with about Y11 billion ($68.6 million) planned investment.

Sonoco Products agreed to acquire Eviosys, Europe's leading food can, ends and closures maker, from KPS Capital Partners for approximately $3.9 billion. The deal is expected to create the leading metal food can and aerosol packaging manufacturer globally.

BillerudKorsnas is expanding its Gruvon paper mill in Grums with a new board machine of 550,000 tonnes annual capacity and rebuilding of the existing pulp mill, in its largest investment ever at SEK 5.7 billion.

ORAB Entreprenad won a contract to deliver pipe installations for BillerudKorsnas' Gruvon mill expansion in Grums, with an order value of about 40 million, starting January 2018.

Saccheria F.lli Franceschetti won the second lot of a Poste Italiane tender to supply waterproof sacks for MPKS parcels. The 24-month framework agreement is worth about EUR 0.5 million.

Tetra Pak opened its aseptic packaging material plant in Chakan, Maharashtra, India, in May 2013 after construction began in February 2011. The project cost about EUR 120 million and the plant has annual capacity of more than 16 billion carton packages.

SupplyOne, a Wellspring Capital portfolio company, has acquired Columbia Corrugated Box Co., which operates in Oregon, Washington and Northern California. Footprint Capital acted as exclusive sell-side advisor. The deal was announced June 2024.

Ourjin (002701.SZ) plans a voluntary conditional cash general offer at HK$7.21 per share to acquire all issued shares of COFCO Packaging (00906), with total consideration capped at HK$6.066 billion (about RMB 5.524 billion). Smurfit Kappa signed an agreement to acquire Artemis Ltd., a Bag-in-Box packaging plant in Shumen, Bulgaria, that makes bags, films and caps for food and beverage packaging. The deal expands its presence in Eastern Europe.

Sonoco agreed to purchase metal packaging maker Eviosys from KPS Capital Partners for $3.9 billion, creating a leading global metal food can and aerosol packaging business. Eviosys is expected to generate about $2.5 billion in 2024 revenue.

Delmarva Corrugated Packaging held the grand opening of its 465,000-square-foot plant in Dover, Delaware, a $91 million investment that created 160 jobs. The plant has been operating since 2021 and is served by the Delmarva Central Railroad.

Green Bay Packaging Inc. has acquired SMC Packaging Group of Springfield, Missouri, a corrugated packaging company with plants in Missouri, Arkansas and Oklahoma. The transaction closed May 31, 2024 and was announced June 6, 2024.

Zotefoams has signed a contract with German packaging manufacturer Südpack Verpackungen, which will supply up to 100 million ReZorce beverage cartons annually to scale the innovation.

Refresco is trialling Zotefoams' ReZorce mono-material barrier beverage carton with an unnamed major European retailer, converting a machine for traditional cartons to run the new material. Zotefoams says the carton is fully recyclable and cuts energy and water use by half versus liquid packaging board.

SPG, backed by Altamont Capital, has acquired Clark Foam, a packaging firm. SPG is a provider of protective packaging products. Deal value was not disclosed.

Crescento Packaging, a maker of disposable cups, plates and cardboard boxes for the HORECA sector, has invested over €7.6 million in a new 4,000 sq m factory in the Miroslava Industrial Park near Iași, which was inaugurated in 2023.
