Stora Enso plans to close a corrugated packaging plant in Finland as it centralises the country's production at other sites.

Stora Enso's Oulu mill in Finland received an environmental permit for a new board production line, converted from an old paper machine, with production planned to start in 2025. The line is expected to raise the mill's board capacity to up to 750,000 tons a year.

BUTTING Anlagenbau received a major order from Stora Enso for the O750 Oulu project, converting a paper machine in Oulu, Finland, into a line producing about 750,000 tonnes per year of packaging board. The work includes 128 container positions and over 23 km of pipelines.

MB Funds and the management invest in Pyroll Packaging, a Finnish maker of sustainable packaging with nine manufacturing sites, under a transaction signed on 5 May 2021. Pyroll had net sales of 60m EUR in 2020.

MM Group agreed to acquire Kotkamills Group Oyj from its shareholders for an enterprise value of around EUR 425 million. Kotkamills operates a cartonboard mill in Kotka, Finland, and closing is expected by mid-2021.

NREP Logicenters awarded Finnish contractor YIT a contract to renovate about 2,700 m² and build a new 15,000 m² building at Huhtamaki's foodservice packaging facility in Hämeenlinna, Finland, with work running to December 2019.

Mondi completed its acquisition of 100% of Powerflute Group Holdings Oy, a division of Nordic Packaging and Container Holdings, for EUR 365 million on an enterprise value basis. The Kuopio mill produces 285,000 tonnes of semi-chemical fluting annually.

CHEP and IFCO, Brambles companies, renewed their supply agreements with Finnish retailer S Group, providing reusable pallets and foldable plastic food crates. IFCO will supply up to 20 million reusable food crates over five years.

Stora Enso is investing EUR 28 million at its Heinola Fluting Mill in Finland to improve quality and add 15,000 tonnes of AvantFlute SC capacity. Completion is scheduled for the second quarter of 2018.

Engineering firm Amitec acquired a 100% stake in Formeca, a Finnish packaging machinery producer, from Stora Enso.

As part of its Finnish corrugated consolidation, Stora Enso will invest around €19 million in new machinery and infrastructure at its Lahti site. The plan is scheduled to be finalised by the first quarter of 2018.

Stora Enso plans to shut its corrugated packaging plant in Heinola, Finland, and transfer production to its Lahti plant. A total of 47 employees will be affected.
