TSMC and Sony plan joint semiconductor factory in Kumamoto, Japan
TSMC and Sony are discussing a joint venture to build a semiconductor factory in Kumamoto, Japan, with an investment of JPY 800 billion (USD 7.15 billion). The Japanese government is expected to subsidize half the cost. The plant will produce chips for vehicles and camera image sensors, with operations expected to start in 2024.
