The Biden-Harris Administration announced preliminary terms to provide up to $400 million in direct funding to GlobalWafers subsidiaries to support construction of new silicon wafer manufacturing facilities in Texas and Missouri. The projects represent total capital expenditures of approximately $4 billion and are expected to create 1,700 construction jobs and 880 manufacturing jobs.
MEMC, a subsidiary of GlobalWafers, plans to soon begin delivering wafers as part of a $300 million-plus expansion of its O'Fallon, Missouri facility. The expansion will add silicon-on-insulator wafer production capacity and is expected to be fully operational by the end of 2025, creating 100 new jobs.
