Thailand's SCG Packaging signed a share purchase agreement on February 9 to acquire a 70% stake in Duy Tan Plastics Manufacturing Corporation, Vietnam's top rigid plastic packaging producer, as part of a THB10 billion (US$334 million) investment in Vietnam.
SCG Chemicals, a unit of SCC, will subscribe to 40,560,773 new A.J. Plast shares, about 9.22%, at 17.15 baht per share, totaling roughly 696 million baht, in a private placement.
Siam Cement will acquire Vietnamese packaging materials maker Bien Hoa Packaging through a joint venture with Japan's Rengo; deal size is yet to be determined, and Bien Hoa produces 90,000 tonnes of cardboard boxes a year.
