James M Barry power plant expands with two new combined-cycle units in Alabama
Alabama Power is expanding the James M Barry electric generating plant in Alabama with two new 727MW natural gas-fired combined-cycle units (Units 8 and 9), totaling 1.4GW. Unit 8 began operations in November 2023, and Unit 9 is expected to be operational by November 2025.

Vestas receives 100 MW wind turbine order from Southern Power
Vestas has received an order for 100 MW of V136-3.45 MW turbines from Southern Power for the Wildhorse Mountain wind project in Oklahoma. The order includes supply, commissioning, and a 20-year service agreement. Turbine delivery will begin in Q2 2019.
