Iranian President Hassan Rouhani inaugurated the SALCO aluminum smelter in Lamerd, Fars province, with an output capacity of 300,000 tons per year and an investment of about $1.2 billion.

Iran plans to launch nearly $3.9 billion worth of projects in the mining industry by March 2020, including the South Aluminum Project in Fars province, expected to open in November 2019. The projects aim to employ 10,000 people and increase steel production to 39 million tons per year.
