Work has started on a $46 million railcar manufacturing facility in Bellevue, Western Australia, as part of a $1.25 billion contract with Alstom. The plant will include three cranes and produce around 250 railcars over the next decade, with first railcars expected in service by 2022.
The Western Australian Government signed a 10-year contract with Alstom to build 246 METRONET railcars and a manufacturing and assembly plant in Bellevue, Western Australia. The contract is valued at $1.253 billion, $347 million under budget, and will create over 200 direct jobs. At least 50% of the contract value will be delivered locally.
The Western Australian Government selected Alstom as preferred bidder to supply 246 C-series cars and 6 new Australind rail cars, and provide maintenance for 30 years. The AUD 1.6 billion project requires at least 50% local manufacturing.
