Tampa Electric

Wärtsilä has been contracted to supply generating sets and auxiliary equipment for Tampa Electric Company's new 72 MW generating facility in Florida, USA. The orders were booked in January and December 2023.

Tampa Electric Company completed the Big Bend Modernization project in December 2022, converting Unit 1 from coal to natural gas combined-cycle technology, adding 1,090 MW capacity and reducing CO2 emissions by up to 3 million tonnes. TIC, a Kiewit subsidiary, was the general contractor.

GE announced it will work with Tampa Electric on a modernization project at Big Bend Power Station, providing two 7HA gas turbines and a steam turbine upgrade.
