Proterra

Volvo Group has been selected as the winning bidder for Proterra's Powered business unit, including a development centre in California and an assembly factory in South Carolina, for $210 million. The acquisition aims to accelerate Volvo's battery-electric roadmap.

Komatsu Ltd will exhibit a 20-ton class electric hydraulic excavator equipped with a Proterra lithium-ion battery system at bauma 2022. The machine is scheduled to be introduced to Japanese and European markets in the 2023 financial year.

Proterra announced plans to open a new EV battery system manufacturing plant in Greer, South Carolina. The company will invest at least $76 million and expects to create more than 200 jobs. The factory is expected to launch in the second half of 2022.

Komatsu and Proterra have collaborated to bring Proterra's H Series battery system technology to underground mining equipment. Komatsu will develop battery-electric LHDs, drills and bolters, with prototype machines expected in 2021 and commercial production targeted for 2022.

Komatsu and Proterra signed a collaboration agreement for Proterra to supply H Series battery systems for Komatsu's battery-electric LHDs, drills and bolters for underground hard rock mining. Commercial production expected in 2022.

Komatsu announced a partnership with Proterra to develop a battery-powered excavator. The initial proof-of-concept unit is expected by end of 2021, with commercial production targeted for 2023-2024.

TPI Composites entered into a five-year supply agreement with Proterra to be the supplier of composite bus bodies for Proterra's Catalyst zero-emission electric buses from its existing Rhode Island facility and a new facility in Newton, Iowa expected to open in the first half of 2018. TPI will provide capacity for up to 3,350 bus bodies over the five-year period.
