Newport Wafer Fab

Nexperia announced it is acquiring the UK's largest semiconductor fabrication plant, Newport Wafer Fab, for $87 million. The plant can produce up to 32,000 wafers per month.

Wentai Technology announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary Anshi Semiconductor signed an agreement to acquire 100% of NEPTUNE 6 LIMITED and its subsidiary Newport Wafer Fab (NWF), a British semiconductor chip manufacturer.

Nexperia will invest further in Newport Wafer Fab's power electronics fabrication facility in Newport, Wales. The takeover will also enable a spin-out of compound semiconductor activities into a new locally owned entity.

Newport Wafer Fab in South Wales plans to raise over £50 million to nearly double production capacity from 8,000 to 14,000 wafers per week, driven by demand for power supply chips amid a global semiconductor shortage.

Infineon Technologies has signed an agreement to sell its IR Newport Ltd. subsidiary manufacturing site in Newport, UK to Neptune 6 Ltd. The deal is expected to close by the end of September 2017, and the buyer will operate the site as Newport Wafer Fab Ltd.
