Transnet

ZPMC has won a contract to supply 22 intelligent straddle carriers to South African terminal operator Transnet TPT. The first batch will be delivered by the end of 2020. Announced on 29 June 2020.

Transnet signed a seven-and-a-half-year contract worth R8 billion with United Manganese of Kalahari (UMK) for rail and port capacity to export manganese, including transportation, storage and vessel loading.

Bombardier and Transnet celebrated the handover of the first of 240 Bombardier Traxx electric locomotives for freight traffic in South Africa, at Transnet Engineering's assembly plant in Durban on December 7, 2017. The contract was awarded in 2014 and is valued at approximately ZAR 15 billion (EUR 933 million).

ABB launched a new 2,450-square-metre production facility in Longmeadow, Johannesburg, to produce traction transformers for Bombardier trains. The facility is expected to employ 60 people by end of 2017.
