Huhtamaki acquired full ownership of its Polish joint venture Huhtamaki Smith Anderson from Smith Anderson Group. The company makes foodservice paper bags at its facility in Czeladz, Poland.
Smith Anderson, a Kirkcaldy paper bag maker, signed three-year supply contracts with McDonald's and Burger King worth in excess of GBP 50 million, starting January 2019.
Smith Anderson is setting up a joint venture with a major packaging supplier to open a new facility in the south of Poland, with McDonald's Europe supporting the venture. Staff will be trained in Kirkcaldy.
Kirkcaldy-based Smith Anderson has agreed a three-year extension to supply paper bags to McDonald's, worth £35 million, following a competitive tender. The deal runs to at least 2020 and extends supply into Poland and central eastern Europe.
