Flexible plastics firm STM Packaging has entered administration following declining business.

Brilén, a Spanish polyester plant in Barbastro, is studying a restructuring of its filament section affecting nearly 50 staff, with cuts starting 7 January. Output is being reduced from 6,000 to 4,500 tonnes due to cheaper Chinese competition after EU tariff removal.

Amcor Rigid Plastics is closing its Batavia, Illinois plastic bottle factory, eliminating 110 jobs, with a rolling shutdown from September 2017 until March 2018 and equipment to be sold.
