Petronas Chemicals Group Bhd awarded a US$328 million EPCC contract to a consortium led by Tecnimont S.p.A for a polypropylene unit at the Rapid project in Pengerang, Johor, Malaysia. The unit will have a capacity of 400,000 tonnes per year, with completion expected by July 9, 2019.

Daya Materials Bhd's 67%-owned subsidiary Daya Secadyme Sdn Bhd was awarded a contract from Petronas Carigali Sdn Bhd for integrated production chemicals supply and services worth an estimated RM67 million. The contract has a five-year tenure effective Dec 11 with a one-year extension option.

Jotun Paints (Malaysia) Sdn Bhd has invested RM60 million in a new 4,800 sq m powder coating factory in Nilai, Negeri Sembilan, Malaysia, expected to more than double production capacity to 6,000 tonnes per annum.

Hextar Global Bhd is buying synthetic latex polymers manufacturer TufBond Technologies Sdn Bhd for RM13 million cash, expanding its specialty chemicals sector. The acquisition includes a profit guarantee of RM2 million per annum for three years.
